Universal City is a city of about 20,000 people in Bexar County.
What the Ground Is Like in Universal City
Universal City sits next to Randolph Air Force Base northeast of San Antonio.
Universal City sits on Blackland Prairie clay. This dark soil swells when it rains and shrinks and cracks in a dry summer.
That matters because the ground under a driveway, patio or deck decides how long it lasts. We look at your soil and slope during the estimate and build for what we find.
Decks, Patios, Porches and Pergolas in Universal City
We build the wood side of the backyard too, so one crew can handle the slab and what goes on it.
- Decks in wood or composite
- Patios and covered patios
- Front and back porches
- Patio enclosures and screened porches
- Pergolas, attached or freestanding
Clay moves, so deck, porch and pergola footings go deeper here. That keeps posts from heaving and keeps the frame square.
Concrete Work in Universal City
We pour plain gray concrete with a broom or smooth finish. No stamped or stained work, just solid slabs built to last.
- Concrete driveways, new, wider or torn out and replaced
- Concrete patios and patio extensions
- Sidewalks and walkways, front walks and side yard paths
Clay is hard on concrete, so we add a thicker rock base, use a rebar grid on chairs and slope the slab so water never pools at the edge. Those steps keep a slab from heaving.
Permits and HOA Rules in Universal City
Rules change from city to city. Driveway approaches that meet the street, raised decks and roofed structures are the jobs that most often need a permit. If your home is in a neighborhood with an HOA, the design may also need HOA approval. We check what Universal City and your HOA need before we set a start date.
